that influence their awareness and utilization of contraceptive methods.
Furthermore, in-line with the objectives of the study nine research questions
and six hypotheses were postulated. Related literature were reviewed,
descriptive survey research design was adopted. The sample subjects for the
study was 1,200 undergraduate students randomly drawn from three selected
tertiary institutions in Delta state. Structured questionnaire was used to
collect data, the face and content validity of the study was established by
experts in Health and Physical Education Department UNIZIK Awka. The
instrument after validation was tested for reliability. The result showed
correlation of 0.85. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive
statistics of frequency percentage and mean including inferential statistics of
chi-square. The hypotheses drawn were tested at 0.05 level of significance.
The result of the study indicated that the level of awareness and extent of
utilization of contraceptive methods among tertiary institution students in
Delta state is low. There was significant difference in the level of awareness
and extent of utilization of contraceptive methods among tertiary institution
students in Delta state, based on there various ages, religious beliefs and
marital status. Arising from the findings of the study, recommendations were
made such as tertiary institution students should be targeted by government

to see that tertiary institution students achieve increased improvement on
their awareness and extent of utilization of contraceptive methods, in order
to reduce the high rate of undesired pregnancies and sexually transmitted
infections among some of the students.
