The Environmental Health Effects of Lead and Zinc Mining on groundwater in Ishiagu, Ebonyi State, Nigeria were investigated using Atomic Spectrometry SP Model 2900. A total of 20 groundwater samples were collected from four villages: Ihetutu, Amaeze, Amaonye and Amagu respectively. Five life fishes from Ivo River was also collected in order to study possible impact of lead and zinc mining on human health and to find out if there is any relationship between fishes from Ivo River and groundwater resources. The groundwater samples were collected during the dry and wet seasons while the fishes were collected during the dry season only. The statistical tools used were the One-Way Analysis of Variance, correlation and students t-test. Lead-zinc mining activities in Ishiagu have drastically affected the groundwater resource of the area, contaminating it with significant concentrations of metallic lead and zinc. The five fishes from Ivo River attested to it under plate V which has the highest mutagenic damage. Season affects lead and zinc concentrations adversely with dry season recording higher concentration values. It further showed that heavy metals (lead and zinc) distribution in the groundwater and fishes, follow the same pattern, indicating a close correlation between the levels in groundwater and in fishes. The fact that both dry and rainy season mean levels of lead and zinc exceeded WHO (1985) and NAFDAC (2006) recommended limits in food and water, suggested that both groundwater and fishes of the area are endemic for human consumption. Based on that, a close monitoring of metal pollution in Ishiagu is strongly recommended, in view of the possible health implication to consumers of the fishes and groundwater users in the area.
