This thesis studies the non-standard features in the Igbo used in newscasting in Purity FM, a federal radio station and Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) Awka, all in Anambra State. Excerpts are taken from news bulletin (i.e. Akụkọ ụwa). While it is assumed that the Igbo used in broadcasting is essentially the standard variety, the work discovers that there are significant deviant or non-standard features at such levels of linguistic description as phonology, vocabulary and grammar. Based on these findings, the work did a comparison of the standard forms with the non-standard forms in the news bulletin of the radio stations. From the analysis, the researcher discovered the frequent substitution of the standard forms with the non-standard forms. The work also comprises the descriptive linguistic analysis of two news bulletin cast on different days from each radio stations. The researcher also recommended ways by which the Igbo language used in news casting in these stations can be improved such as; the newscasters undergoing proper training in the use of the standard Igbo.
