We live in a rapidly changing world which is increasingly bringing people of various cultures in closer interaction with each other. This interaction can be positive or negative depending on the level of sensitivity and respect people have for other cultural groups. If people are going to be successful in today’s plural, information age and global society, then there will be need to develop a culturally sensitive mind frame that tolerates and if possible adapts. The question before us is: how is it possible for people to co-exist in a culturally plural world? Can there be cultural universalism as a symbol of globalization? Who occupies the central isle and whose dictates should others follow? This is what Locke sets to achieve in his philosophy of values in race contact and interracial relations, which he calls cultural pluralism. The world today is becoming more of a plural world in its socioeconomic cum political practices of immigration, globalization, and world economic market etc. But the problem on how to achieve civility and inclusive membership of recognition deeply incorporated into such practices still lingers. This research work employs the method of critical analysis in appraising the cultural pluralism of Alain Leroy Locke and Black social cultural pluralism to see the contribution of Black philosophy in global civilization. The conclusion is that for peaceful co-existence, and stable social order, there should be all-inclusive participation of substantial heritage of traditional values, rituals practice, norms, and institutions that promotes differences through tolerance and mutual understanding of all peoples of the world where cultural pluralism thrives.
