This thesis analyzes the incorporation of proverbs in Flora Nwapa’s Efuru and Elechi Amadi’s The Concubine and The Great Ponds. The work is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction that contains the statement of problem, the purpose, the scope and the significance of the study. Next is the review of available and relevant scholarship. This chapter proves the validity of the proverbs used and their genuineness after being subjected to Richard Dorson’s criteria of biographical evidence, internal evidence and corroborative evidence. Chapters three and four deal with the integration of proverbs in the novels i.e. the active and passive usages. Rems Umeasiegbu’s reflective model for the assessment of Igbo proverbs that was used to test Chinua Achebe’s works was also used to assess Flora Nwapa and Elechi Amadi’s use of proverbs. They tallied. The model shows that they have really used proverbs effectively. This thesis concludes that the model for the study of proverbs in Achebe’s novels fits very well the proverbs used by Flora Nwapa and Elechi Amadi.
