EFFECTIVENESS OF OFFICE FUNCTIONS PERFORMED BY OFFICE TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT GRADUATES EMPLOYEES AS APPRAISED BY EMPLOYERS IN NORTH-WESTERN STATES OF NIGERIA

This study was aimed at appraisal of the effectiveness of office functions performed by office technology and management graduates employees in North-Western states of Nigeria. Five research questions and five null hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study comprised 384 employers of O.T.M graduates employees in North- Western states of Nigeria. Ninety six questionnaire items relating to administrative functions, personnel functions, record keeping functions, human relations functions and information and communication technology functions were developed and validated by panel of experts. The internal consistency reliability of Pearson product moment correlation coefficient obtained were 0.90, 0.76, 0.81, 0.87 and 0.61 for sections A, B, C, D, E and F respectively. Mean rating and standard deviation were used to analyse the research questions, and z-test was used to test the null hypotheses. The results of the analyses revealed that employers in the North-Western states of Nigeria rated O.T.M graduate employees good in four functions including administrative, personnel, record keeping and information and communication technology, and fair in human relations functions. Also, all the five null hypotheses were rejected. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the O.T.M department should intensify training on all department courses; the lecturers should be effectively supervised by the most senior lectures to ensure strict adherence to all aspect in the curriculum. Also, computer lecturers in OTM department should be properly supervised to ensure that they maintain the standard enshrined by the N.B.T.E; employers of labour should set funds aside to assist OTM department financially by procuring or donating equipment needed for training OTM students and OTM student should concentrate fully on the practical aspect of the programe so as to be better off after graduating.
