GROWTH AND CHARACTERIZATION OF ANTIMONY SULPHIDE AND COPPER-ANTIMONY THIN FILMS FABRICATED BY SOLUTION GROWTH TECHNIQUE

Thin films of antimony sulphide (Sb2S3) and copper-antimony sulphide (CuSbS2) were successfully deposited on glass substrates by solution growth technique from an acidic medium. All the films were deposited at room temperature at different dip time of 12hrs, 24hrs, 36hrs and 48hrs respectively. Transmittance and reflectance measurements of both Sb2S3 and CuSbS2 thin films were obtained using an AVASPEC-2048 UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer in the wavelength range of 200-900nm with an uncoated glass substrate as a reference frame. The thickness of both films was obtained from surface profile analysis while their absorption coefficient was calculated from transmittance measurement. The Sb2S3 thin films was found to have a direct band gap in the range of 1.40eV to 1.80eV while the CuSbS2 thin films has a direct band gap in the range of 2.05eV to 2.85eV depending on the dip time. The structural, morphological and elemental composition of the films was investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive analysis x-ray spectroscopy (EDX) respectively. XRD and SEM results confirm the amorphous nature of the films.
