The study centred on the evaluation of the awareness and uses of new media technologies among undergraduates of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The major goal of the study was to investigate the uses and benefits of the new media technologies available within the university. Four research questions guided the study. This study was essentially a cross sectional descriptive survey and data used for analysis were collected with structured questionnaire. Simple random sampling techniques were used to draw from the twelve faculties of the campus comprising of fifteen thousand students. Out of these faculties, 300 respondents were randomly drawn to constitute the sample size. Data obtained were statistically treated using descriptive statistics and frequencies. Result of the analysis indicated that the respondents are aware of the new media technologies as an important aid towards academic research benefits. However, the study also reveals that students often negatively use the technological features of these devices as a window of opportunity to commit a lot of academic malpractices undetected by their supervisors. This calls for more concerted effort on the part of the management of Nigerian universities to make technology more accessible to its students and staff so that when inculcated as a lecturing aid its features will be used positively under strict supervision.
