Despite concerted efforts by the government in providing agricultural credit facilities, Nigeria yet experiences low level of famers’ income, unavailability of essential industrial agro raw materials, continuous rise in importation of agricultural commodities etc. The aforementioned inherent problems necessitated the study which has as its objective the effect of agricultural credit on agricultural output in Nigeria. The study empirically analyzed the effect of agricultural credit on agricultural output in Nigeria using a time series data that span between the periods of 1970-2008. The study specified a model based on the Cobb-Douglas Production function with six explanatory variables. Using the ECM method, the significance of agricultural credit on agricultural output in Nigeria was put to test. The result revealed that agricultural credit has an insignificant positive effect with agricultural output in Nigeria. The result also revealed that their will be a long run relationship between agricultural credit and agricultural output. The study reached a conclusion that there is still need to enhance, monitor and periodically evaluate/assess the performance of the various credits supplied for agricultural purposes to effectively realize the expected result not only in the sector but on the macro economy.
