THE LIFE AND TIMES OF SUNDAY OLIVER AKANITE (OLIVER DE COQUE) 1947 – 2008

Considering how the songs and music traditions of Oliver De Coque enriched the Igbo philosophy and impacted on the lives of many Nigerians, the researcher uses this work to examine the life and times of this music maestro as they relate to the Nigerian music industry, lives of people around him and his contributions to the society at large. Using historical method of writing and making use of both oral and secondary sources of data, this study maintains that the contributions of chief Sunday Akanite to not only the Nigerian music industry but also to the Nigerian society at large are monumental and deserveserious historical documentation. This work also makes a wake up call for serious academic chronicling of the biographies of people that have distinguished themselves in their chosen careers for future studies.
