CHINESE AND IGBO FOOD CULTURE: A COMPARATIVE STUDY.

Every country of the world has its own world-view from where its culture evolved. China’s culture is one of the oldest cultures of the world. They pay more attention to the harmonious relation between human beings and nature. They said “Nature and Man are one”. They do whatever that is within their reach to make man good through moral cultivation and temper refinement as well as the spiritual enlightenments on the part of the individual. Igbo is one of the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria. They are known for their handwork and a life that is full of culture. Culture is about people’s way of life – the totality of their way of living ranging from the type of house they build, the type of clothe they put on, the type of food they cultivate and eat to the type of language they speak. The type of food people eat is their culture. Therefore, this paper aims at investigating into the Chinese and Igbo food as well as their eating culture. It briefly discussed their location, weather, climate, rainfall and finally looked into their major food items, their preparation and eating culture.
