Cancer is an ailment caused by an abnormal growth of cells which tend to proliferate in an uncontrolled way and, in some cases, to metastasize (spread). The major treatment modes for such uncontrolled growth include (out-patient mode) or hospitalization (in-patient mode). The researcher’s major consideration will be to employ passive means/measures of enhancing the safety of persons from risk of radiation within the oncology facility where such treatments are taking place. Persons here include patients, visitors and staff. This was in response to the increasing rate of radioactive exposures, coupled with the poor therapeutic environment of cancer facilities that abound several developing country, more so Nigeria, where the attention given to the cancer health sector by governments (at all levels) is grossly inadequate. Awka was chosen as the study area and may be considered a representative of other states of the federation. Descriptive survey research method will be adopted and questionnaires and oral interviews will also be employed in gathering information about the present conditions of the cases studied. Studies revealed poor safety measures were employed in most cancer facilities.
