UPGRADING THE CAPABILITY AND RELIABILITY OF NIGERIAN ELECTRIC COMPOSITE SYSTEM USING POWERFORMERS

In this paper, the effect of powerformer on the power system reliability is investigated. In doing so, some networks outside Nigeria, where the plants are installed were mentioned and discussed. The selected 330KV Nigerian network is simulated for bus voltage variations and line losses under five different scenarios. At the end its effects on the network are predicted after simulation. It was found that the installation of powerformers in Nigerian grid will improve its quality and reliability as it would in any other electric network by reducing the size and complexity and eliminating the inherent economic and technical issues that limit system reliability improvement and indices.
