The design and implementation of graphic user interface for remote monitoring and diagnosis of process control systems is presented. The system enables a manager at a remote site, monitor effectively the on-going digitally controlled processes in his work place, wirelessly. The project demonstrates the emulation of Attention (AT) Commands in operating GSM modem by means of a micro controller. The microcontroller can thus send short message service (SMS) texts via a GSM modem to any desired remote site. Monitoring software was developed in Assembly language which enables process status information to be displayed in a user-friendly manner for the personnel at the remote site. Protus professional was used to develop the GUI at the remote site. The system has plug and play features which enable it to be customized for any industrial process control system that can be represented as an Algorithmic State Machine (ASM) chart. A user friendly remote process monitoring that enables the personnel relate easily with the status of the process under control at his work place was realized in this project. As a proof of concept a graphic user interface for temperature control system was implemented.
