EVALUATION OF THE DESIGN-CONSTRUCTION INTERFACE IN THE BUILDING DELIVERY PROCESS OF THE NIGERIAN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

Customer requirements, constructive aspects and quality standards are defined during the design phase of a building project. It can however, be said that this important phase is usually carried out with little interaction between the construction and design teams causing many problems during construction such as: incomplete designs, change orders, rework, construction delays, etc. The review includes major periodicals, research reports, and some text books, survey questionnaire was developed through literature review in which responses from 60 respondents were analyzed through statistical analysis tool, the results indicate that lack of design details and specification ranked highest among the factors affecting the interface with a mean score of 3.75 on a 5.0 scale, while the least ranked factor was the reluctance of contractor to offer pre-construction advice with a mean score of 1.88.
