Employee performance evaluation is a systematic process and procedure through which employers determine the level of productivity of their employees. Basically it is to determine whether employees are performing up to expected or pre-determined standards. In trying to accomplish the task of determining the productivity rate of the employees of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, Business Units located in Anambra State were studied through a sample survey, which used chi-square (x2) inferential statistics to verify the various claims as stated in the test of hypothesis. All tests were carried out at 0.05 level of significance. Areas of investigation included the following: impact of appraisal method on performance, influence of motivation on staff attitude to work, labour/management relation and sanctions. The main theory on which the study anchored was Vroom’s Expectancy Theory of motivation. It was discovered that appraisal or evaluation method being used in the organization can influence productivity. Also, the findings revealed that motivation in whatever form has the capacity to substantially influence the attitude of the employees in the organization. Agitation for improved conditions of service was found to be as a result of management’s insensitivity to the welfare of the workers. Finally, it was discovered that in the organization, disciplinary measures in form of sanctions were most times influenced by personal interest rather than the magnitude of misconduct of the employee thereby making it selective. Selective judgment gives room for ill-feelings which impacts negatively on productivity. In the light of the above, the study recommends that the management should be more alive to their responsibilities by treating the employees of the company as partners in progress. By so doing, there would be a conducive atmosphere for the actualization of the goals of the company.
