Man has remained the centre of attraction in most philosophical and scholarly discourses over the years. Philosophers are interested in man’s nature, origin and end. This is because, they were challenged by the seeming fickleness of man’s existence so, they opted to understand man’s origin as a probable clue to knowing man’s future and end. This was what Pierre Teilhard de Chardin was out to investigate with his evolutionary humanism. Philosophically, humanism is a man-centred philosophy; it is any philosophy, which recognizes the value of man and makes man the measure of all things and it takes human nature, limits, and interests as its theme. However, Teilhard de Chardin’s evolutionary humanism situated man’s origin in evolution and placed the future of man in a social convergence and man’s end in the Omega Point. Ostensibly, Teilhard placed man’s origin in science and man’s end in religion nay mysticism. Consequently, this
research employs the critical analytic method and undertook a critical analysis of the evolutionary humanism of Teilhard and it became obvious that Teilhard’s evolutionary humanism was an attempt to blend science and religion without recourse to their distinct methods and schemes. In this wake, this research concluded that while Teilhard’s idea of the social convergence of humanity was quite outstanding, evolution does not really explain the origin of man and Teilhard’s evolutionary humanism with his Omega Point Theory does not adequately support the theory of humanism.
