This research work surveyed Music in early childhood education: A study of selected Pre-primary schools in Anambra State. Music serves as the only most effective means through which pre-primary school children could be taught and could learn. And music education as revealed by many researchers has been proven to be a great incentive to the general development of the pre-primary school children of ages one (1) to five (5) years. But, the perception of the preprimary school teachers is such that they view music as mainly a means of calming children down, when they are crying or disturbing in the class, not necessarily as a pointer to their all round development. This study is aimed at portraying the factors militating against the effective use of music in the teaching and learning activities in the pre-primary schools; with the view of creating awareness on the importance of music in the life’s the pre-primary school children, and, the need to effectively use music in their teaching and learning activities; in other to create a sustainable musical interest that will make the whole class work enjoyable and interesting for both the teachers and the children. Sixty-eight (68) teachers and head teachers of both the state and private pre-primary schools, drawn from three (3) educational zones out of the six (6) educational zones in Anambra State, were the sample of the population. The instrument-questionnaire for both the teachers and the head-teachers was used for data collection. Findings were discussed and analysed. Some recommendations and suggestions were made based on the findings, and some methodological approaches of teaching children music were also suggested.
